MEANWHILE, DON'T FORGET THAT RIGHT-WINGERS STILL HATE MUSLIMS AND WANT TO KILL SOME

Before you start thinking that right-wing skepticism about a Syria attack signals a more tolerant view of Islam, consider this item from Fox's man on the "culture war news" beat, Todd Starnes:

Sen. John McCain said shouting "Allahu Akbar" is the same as saying "thank God." ...

[Brian] Kilmeade [of Fox and Friends] told the senator he had an issue with recently obtained video that reportedly shows Syrian rebels shooting down a Syrian fighter jet and shouting, "Allahu Akbar!" ...

"Would you have a problem with American Christians saying, thank God, thank God?" McCain retorted. "That's what they're saying. Come on. Of course they're Muslims, but they're moderates."

Sen. McCain has no idea what he's talking about.

Allahu Akbar is what the terrorists said before flying jetliners into the World Trade Center Towers, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania.

Thank God is what they said when Americans discovered their loved ones survived the attacks.

Allahu Akbar is what traitor Nidal Hasan said before American soldiers were slaughtered at Fort Hood.

Perhaps Sen. McCain should refrain from theological dissertation and do what he does best -- carry President Obama's water.

That's where we are right now -- the senator most in favor of war in the Middle East is insufficiently Muslim-phobic for Fox's "culture war" reporter.

And, of course, Starnes has given us a rather selective view of the use of "Thank God" -- which is also a phrase these folks use:

(But Todd Starnes would probably agree with the latter sentiment -- and perhaps with the former sentiments, although mainstream-media right-wingers have learned to distance themselves from the Westboro Baptist Church crowd.)

In any case, the thirst for war may have dissipated now that it's a Democrat doing the saber-rattling, but the Muslim-hate never dies. Once one of theirs is in charge, right-wingers will be beating the war drums soon.

What the president should have done, which would have been true leadership and strategic vision, we should have left a residual force in Iraq instead of zeroing out our presence. And now we don't have anything that stops Iran's transiting through Iraq to go in and help Assad. If we had left some type of force along the border with Iraq and Syria, that would have been a deterrent.

Yup -- according to West, we shouldn't bomb Syria, because what we really should have done was ... leave troops in Iraq so they could be attacking Iran and Hezbollah now!

Believe me, a lot of supposed "isolationists" in the right-wing base were watching that and nodding in agreement.
